February Fun

Happy February, ScribbleFriends!

Each February 2nd is Groundhog Day. Legend has it that if the groundhog sees their shadow on Groundhog Day, we’ll have six more weeks of winter weather. If they don’t see their shadow, better weather is just ahead! If you ask me, it should be called Sun Day or Cloud Day because it seems to have more to do with whether or not the sun is shining. We sure put an awful lot of pressure on that poor little ground hog.

Groundhog Day has been celebrated in the United States for over 100 years. Early Pennsylvania settlers from Germany brought the tradition here with them. In Germany, they watched the hedgehog to see if he saw his shadow. They couldn’t find any hedgehogs in Pennsylvania, though, so they figured a groundhog was close enough.

We’re celebrating Groundhog Day by making shadow puppets on the wall.  What will you do on Groundhog Day?

Your pal,
ScribbleMonster

ScribbleMonster’s Special Guest of the Month is…

… Groundhog! The Groundhog needs your help making their shadow puppet. What will your shadow puppet look like? If we make shadow puppets, does that mean six more weeks of winter?

You can print out this coloring page to make your own Groundhog. Who will be my next Special Mystery Guest? Check back in March to see!
